Sew Positive is a charity dedicated to supporting mental health and reducing social isolation through creative sewing workshops and courses. We welcome adults of all skill levels, including complete beginners, to join our friendly, supportive community and discover the wellbeing benefits of sewing.
Why join Sew Positive?
- Being creative and making something beautiful lifts your mood.
- Sewing is mindful, calming, and sociable.
- Learn new skills while helping the planet by using recycled materials.
Our events include upcycling projects, visible mending, slow stitching, festive embroidery, and more. We also run a weekly 'Men's Hems' group, offering men a creative space to relax and connect.
What to expect:
- A safe, welcoming space to sew and 'sew-cialise'.
- All equipment and materials provided (you may bring items from home to upcycle or mend).
- Supportive tutors to help you learn and grow your sewing skills.
- Use of donated sewing machines or bring your own; hand-stitching is also welcome.
We offer longer courses during term time for adults facing mental health challenges, often referred by a GP or Social Prescribing Link Worker. Some workshops and courses are free for those experiencing long-term health issues, unemployment, or disadvantage—please contact us for details.
How to access:
- Book your place or ask questions by email or via the booking form on our website.
