Melksham Link is a friendly, volunteer-run charity dedicated to helping local residents in Melksham and surrounding villages get to medical appointments when no other transport is available.
Our team of volunteer drivers will pick you up from your home, take you to your appointment, wait for you, and return you safely home. We operate as part of the countywide Good Neighbours scheme, supporting those who need it most.
- Areas covered: Melksham, Shaw, Whitley, Beanacre, Forest, Bowerhill, Atworth, Broughton Gifford, Lacock, Semington, and nearby villages.
- Who can use the service? Anyone in our area who needs help getting to a medical appointment and has no other way to get there.
- Wheelchair users: We have very limited availability for wheelchair users. A carer must accompany the client and be able to lift the wheelchair in and out of the car. Not all cars can accommodate wheelchairs. For NHS hospital appointments, you may be eligible for hospital transport—please check the NHS website.
- Cost: We ask for a voluntary contribution to help cover the driver’s expenses (45p per mile from the driver’s home). Example costs: Melksham to RUH Bath (return) £14.40, Melksham to Devizes Treatment Centre (return) £8.20, Melksham to GWH Swindon (return) £28.80, Melksham to Southmead Hospital Bristol (return) £31.50. Please give what you can afford.
- Funding: The service is funded entirely by donations and run by unpaid volunteers. Legacies and larger donations are welcome—contact us for details.
How to book: Call us or email to request a journey. If you’re unsure whether you’re in our area, contact us and we’ll help direct you to the right scheme.
Want to volunteer? We welcome new volunteers for driving, coordinating, and administration. Training and support are provided, and fuel costs are reimbursed.
