Looking for local cancer support, for yourself or someone you care about? The Cancer Support Network (Berkshire Cancer Support Network and Cancer Champions project) supports people affected by cancer at any point in their journey, and also supports family members and the wider support network. The service is for people located in or around the Bracknell Forest and Wokingham Boroughs. Support includes a community-based network with emotional support, social activities and opportunities to connect with others who have been affected by cancer. The service also shares information, resources and signposting (for non-medical questions) and offers private peer-support spaces through WhatsApp or Facebook chat groups, which you can request to join once you submit a referral. Regular meet-ups run both in-person and online, and you can also attend as a casual taster to meet everyone first. Monthly newsletter updates are available. Cancer Champions are trained volunteers with experience of cancer who can offer peer-to-peer support in the home or where needed. They can provide a listening ear and may be able to help with basic short-term tasks such as shopping, light gardening, and driving to appointments for a few hours a week over an agreed time period. You may find this helpful if you have been diagnosed with cancer, are living with cancer, have recently left treatment, or you are supporting someone affected by cancer and would like local peer support and practical help.
