The Recovery Lounge is a non-clinical safe space in Manchester city centre for people experiencing a mental health crisis. It is staffed by Recovery Workers and Peer Support Workers who can provide individually tailored emotional support, strengths-based problem solving and signposting to local services. The lounge is open daily from 4:00pm to 11:00pm. Anyone living in Manchester or under a Manchester GP can call and self-refer to the service on the day they want to come in; friends and family or other professionals can refer you as well. When you call, you will be asked for your personal details, GP details and a brief summary of your current crisis. When you attend, you will speak to an experienced worker who will listen and help you to find solutions or options to move forward. The service is non-clinical and does not provide medical treatment or psychological therapy, but offers emotional support and coping techniques and can signpost you to other local services.
